I need some advice here. I"ve got an old 4ft brush hog with an equally old drive shaft. Both ends of the drive shaft are made to fit the 1-1/8" 6 spline. I"ve got an ORC that converts to 1-3/8" for the newer implements. I need to shorten the drive shaft to compensate for the ORC. But here"s the kicker, because the tractor side of the drive shaft is 1 1/8" I need to get a new yoke that will fit 1 3/8". Plus (yes it gets better) the welded on yoke and U-joint that fits the tube half of the shaft are so corroded that I need to cut that off and replace it too. I looked at TSC and CNH for a new drive shaft but the cheapest I found was around $200 and it still won"t fit the 1 1/8" spline on the brush hog. I"ve already bought the parts to rebuild the drive shaft for about $90. Before it"s too late to return the parts do you guys think it"s worth all the $$$ and time and effort to fix this thing?

Something to consider: the back of the tractor is 5 feet wide. With a 4 foot mower, you can't really get close to fences, trees, etc. I use a 5 footer...

My .02 would be return those parts, sell the "project" 4-footer to someone else, & find a ready-to-go 5-footer.

You'll likely save money & have a better package to get the mowing done.

You can replace your entire PTO assembly with 1 3/8" splines for about $100...

If you get it fixed you will only have a 4 foot cutter. An N will pull a 5 foot with ease.I have seen many good looking brush hogs sell for $200 or less at auctions here in MO.
