Is there supposed to be an ignition resistor ahead of the coil on a 1952 8N?

OEM 6v 8n with 6v sidemount round can coil needs NO ignition resistor.

8n with 12v conversion and 6v side mount coil needs an 8ne10306 dropping resistor... or NO resistor and a true 12v coil like a NAPA IC14SB ( 15$ )

Also known as a "ballast" resistor.

But... in reply to A. Bohemian, 04-25-2007 15:45:04
... I should have added that I am only familiar with the original 6 volt layout.

Not sure about aftermarket coils on 12 volt conversions, some of which may have the resistor built in, so you would see no external resistor.
