I have found my serial on the left side rear of the block it is very faint after cleaning it looks like 8n354357* there seams to be a star at the end. Our am I just seeing things. Can anyone help? Thanks Rick

You aren't seeing things! The star indicates that your engine has the .040 steel cylinder sleeves. According to John Smith's site, all the 8N's had the thinner steel sleeves until serial number *8N433578*, and then they were changed to .090 cast iron sleeves (more durable). So if you look again, you might just see another star preceding the 8N. I have a 1951 also, serial number 419915, so I just missed having the thicker sleeves by 25,000 tractors....LOL

Mr. Carl I see your 8n has a front-end loader so does mine, could you send me a larger picture. I looked closer at the serial # and it does look like there's a star in front. Thanks Rick
