Jessica,

That sure is a nice tractor! And it sounds like you got it for a real nice price.

Thanks for posting the pictures, and good luck with it!

Here's how you do it..... in reply to Jessica @ Lucky Doubles, 04-25-2007 16:54:59
To stick pics into your post insert the following HTML in the message for each pic you want to insert. The pic's will auto-magically appear in place of the html:

<p><img src="Put_the_url_of_your_pic_here">

The <p> bit buts a paragraph break (vertical space) ahead of the image and there's some other options you can put inside the <img> bit to set the width, add borders, etc but that basic code will handle most cases. Be careful with the ""s and make sure they're paired up else strange things will happen.

HTH,

Cool!!

(Obligatory) You DO know it is the wrong color?

Ifn I had a 9N, or a 2N, and I painted it, it would be the wrong color too.

Just something about a red belly....

Yep, I did see it was the wrong color before buying it, but I have to agree with you both, I don't think I'll be changing it to the the 9N grey. I really like the Red Belly look too. :) I've been referring to it as my "Little Hybrid". :) From what I can tell so far everything else is original 9N though.

Lugs in reply to Sean (TX), 04-25-2007 17:35:27
One of the first things to fix/purchase is definitely the lug nuts...it's actually missing 2 on each side. I'm going to TSC tomorrow to buy some paint and finish the paint job. There's some areas that need some touching up too, but they pervious owner actually did a decent job all in all. There's some paint on the tires that's driving me nuts though. :)

Lacquer thinner, some rags and some elbow grease will get rid of 'unsightly' paint on your tires.

That's a very good looking tractor. Very nicely painted too. And you only paid $1100 for that? Good deal, I think, if everything works well. I notice it has an upright exhaust - you don't see those every day. You also have a PTO shield which is a good safety feature. It looks like the PTO cover cap is missing. You probably should buy a cover for it for extra protection. You might need to get the kind for an extended PTO. They are available.
Anyway, good luck with your "new" tractor. And feel free to ask any questions here. People are very helpful. Carl

PTO Cover in reply to Carl (NH), 04-25-2007 17:32:20
Hi there,
I'm glad you mentioned the missing PTO cover. I actually went to buy one yesturday and than looked at the cover and tractor and saw that there isn't anywhere threaded to screw on the cover. This is all new to me, but I assume I need to have some type of threaded female inlet welded on to the tractor first...I'm guessing PTO covers weren't exactly top priority in 1939??? Any suggestions as to the best/easiest way to accomodate the cover??

I couldn't tell for sure from your picture, but it seemed to me your PTO shaft was sticking out more than a normal one, so I was thinking maybe there's an ORC on it (over running coupler/clutch)

I found this discussion of PTO covers in the archives. (click link below) You could try searching there with "PTO cover" in the search box.

Yup! Now it all makes sense. I was excited to see the ORC was already on the tractor since I'm planning on using it for a lot of brush hogging/mowing. I didn't even stop to think that's where's the threads would be hiding...DUH! Sorry... :) I think I'll start using my imagination here and think of some fabrication to rig. Have little ones running around and a neighbor missing an arm from a PTO, so I'm over cautious I guess. :) I'm definitely not above getting a section of pipe and somehow sliding that over when we're not using the PTO....Hmmmm....I'll figure something out! At least the shields there for now...Thank you for your help!

What's That Tall Building in the Background For? in reply to Jessica @ Lucky Doubles, 04-25-2007 19:41:46
Gin pole storage? Indoor model rocketry? Trampoline competitions?

Just kidding. Silage is known intellectually down here, but few have any practical experience of it.

Almost everyone finds it easier and more cost effective to plant wheat, oats, or other winter forage.

In all of Central Texas, I know of only one old-fashioned silo still standing, although there must be others I don't know about.

In addition, I see more modern structures from time to time at feed lots, dairy operations, etc., that I think were at least designed to hold silage.

Tall building?..... .you mean that red-top thingy?..... .air-breather cover for thru-the-hood airfilter extension of 2N's. (grin)

As for silage, most now use chopp-harvested ground pit-silage with plastic tarp weighted down with old tires. Then they can frontend loader feedmix for the dairy string or feedlot. Intensive farming at it best..... ..Dell, I miss seeing cows gittin' drunk on silo silage squeezin's fermentation, whoo-doggies (giggle)
