I tried pulling the wires off one at a time and it appears I am only running on two cylinders. Cylinders #1 and #2 (closest to radiator) are dead. There is spark on all cylinders but when I removed the wires from these two, the tractor ran the same. No change. What do you think has happened? Valves? Looks like I am going to have to go into the engine:( Thanks for your time and expertise...

RP... You and Mr. Bohemian are a genius! Somehow I got the #1 and #2 wires crossed. Just got back from doing what you suggested and the 8N runs perfectly! I am so happy! This site is amazing! Thank you! Thank you!

Thanks For the Kind Words... in reply to LoomismanOBX, 04-29-2007 16:50:25
And the follow-up. I"m learning here, too, and I like to know when I"m wrong OR when I"m right.

At 168K miles my Dad gave me the old '64 Dodge Station Wagon for my "airport" car. It still ran fine, but had no power and when the accelerator was "floored" it had a vibration in it.... But otherwise it ran just fine. (318 V-8 and pushbutton automatic.) At 205K miles I decided to install new dist. cap, spark plug wires and spark plugs. I called Dad and asked him when the last time he'd done that and he said about 150K...."it was right before it started that shaking under full throttle. I changed the plugs again figuring I'd bought a bad one, but that wasn't the problem."
As I pulled each spark plug wire loose I laid it out on the bench so I'd get the new one routed exactly the same.... and then I got confused....and then I read the "Firing Order" that was cast into the intake manifold and installed the new wires in accordance with that.
You know what happened. It ran perfectly for another 25K miles before I gave the car to a guy down on his luck. He was still driving it many years later.
(Yep. Switched plug wires.)
