Since OW ( '53 Jube) worked so hard for me, I need to reward him with something new. I think he would really like a top. Looking at Heritage Farm Power for an umbrella and they now have a buggy top available with the Dearborn logo, so now I have to make a decision. I have a (repro) Sherman umbrella holder, so that would be a natural for a square umbrella to mount, but I am intrigued by the buggy top. Problem is, I have never seen one, and (apologies to those who have 'em) they look a bit girly for my taste, and their optional mount looks none to strong compared to the Sherman I have in hand. Do any of you manly guys have experience with this stuff? How do they hold up? Are they retractible? Do they cover you as well as the square umbrella? How tall are they, can I stand up under it? I bet I couldn't see my bush hog through it...

I have one of those buggy tops. They work great. Cover a lot of area. You can easily reach up and pull it forward or push it back. Collapses flat and low behind the tractor. I use a bungee cord to keep the three spokes nice and tight when it is in the "store" position.
You have to be careful about going under low branches! Don't aske me how I know. Mine is made of a fairly heavy cloth tarp material. They can sun-rot, so if you park it outside, you might want to come up with a cover for it. As far as looking girly... nothing girly about working a field in a 55 year old tractor, even if you were using a pink lace parasol. (okay, maybe not pink.... it would clash with the Ford Red but would just be precious on a JD!)

Manly? Her's a pic of my 75' 5000 / 10' mower and buggy top.. I like it.. Keeps the sun off me better than my aluminum canopy on my 7610s.

Nothing more manly than -NOT- getting skin cancer...

Thanks, that pic showed me everything I needed to see except mounting details. How does it mount?

The buggy kits from TSC come with 2 small rails. and clamps. You have a variety of options from side of fender mounts.. to top of fender mounts. Either way.. you wil be drilling the fenders, unless you already have some holes there to use. I find the canopy quite stable. i've used umbrella tops before.. and found they vibrate too much... Just MHO.. ( however.. if i had an oem bracket.. i might be tempted to use it.. etc.. )

Check out valuT-biltT.com (remove the capital "T"'s - censor alert). Click on Tractor Accessories, then Canopies and Umbrellas.

Can't - censor won't let me post it. Make sure to put the hyphen in between (and remove the capital Ts), or google it (or send me an email and I will shoot you the link directly).

I finally figured it out, with a bit of help...

Here's OW as he stands today, in primer. He has earned a paint job at the local body shop. I'll pull the sheet metal and take it over next week.

Hey - disregard that last email - I just discovered this site sells canopies and umbrellas. Funny how I have ordered a ton of stuff off this site and never saw that before.

Check it out below.

OK, I see that now. But these don't have logos. Now there are 3 row and 5 row to choose from. More choices, the pain, oh the pain...

A pair of goggles in the winter, and a cowboy hat in the summer.

The porch light burned out when we had guests over and they needed a way to see to get to the cars, then it froze into the planter and stayed there all winter (crooked like that) until I could pull it out without breaking it.

LMAO!! I burst out laughing when I saw your picture, Scott! I love that outfit! Who needs umbrellas when you have goggles like that! We can show everyone that New Englanders are tough. I've dressed in pretty weird outfits to plow. Like a balaclava AND another knit hat on top of that, two pairs of pants, mismatched gloves etc, all just to stay warm.
