I bought a Tisco Farm Tractor Spark Plub Wire set at lunch - is this a decent set of wires? They four wires are all the same length, is there a standard length to cut each spark plub wire for each different cylinder? Any tips on getting those four big wires through that little loom? Should I pre-cut to proper length before running the wires?

hardhead..... ...COPPER-CORE sparkie wires come in cut-to-fit as you INSTALL.

Are TISCO sparkie wires copper-core? most likely. Is the insulation ennygood? Better'n yer dried out hard leaky sparkie wires. Will they last 20yrs? ?Quien Sabie? Modern soft and flexible silicon insulation is so much better'n hard and stiff and CRACKED 50yr old linen covered rubber sparkies. Who cares?

When I replaced my sparkie wires back in 1990, I bought some Pontiac-V8 "hot-rod" copper-core silicon insulation sparkie wires because they had WATERPROOF right-angle sparkie booties. Cut-to-fit and soldered brass terminals. Simple, eh?..... ...Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

I trust nothing Tisco makes will be as good as anything your local CNH dealer will provide at just a bit more money. I have some Tisco stuff on my tractor, but only when it is the only choice, and even then it always seems to give me a problem.

Tisco has made great strides in improving the quality and fit of their products. The carburetor kits are now second to none, and those spark plug wire kits are also made to original oem standards with copper core wire and excellent insulation. The plug wires retail for about $12.50. Don"t know what the custom made wires from CNH retail for, but I bet it"s at least two or three times that much, and if the fact was known, the CNH wires probably originate from the same place as Tisco"s.

Yep, working with Tisco parts always make me wish I still cussed. Your plug wires will most likely work, but I do like my custom made CNH wires, already at the proper length with the proper molded ends installed. The CNH wires are carbon, not copper, but the whole copper wire thing can be reduced to 'How hot is your ignition system?'. Old weak ignition systems might do better with copper core wires over aged carbon core wires, but new wires will work regardless of which type you choose. Carbon tends to develop cracks in the core as it ages, and the spark has to jump across it on the way to the plug, thus losing a bit of energy. Copper wires should remain constant throughout their life, until the insulation fails and you get arcing everywhere along the length, which will also occur in carbon wires. My tractor runs a 12v solid state ignition system and a high energy 12v coil. It will push a spark down a carbon wire for a long, long time to come. I can also make custom wires with supplies I got from my electrical parts house, but they were big yellow copper wires with ugly red boots, no good for my OW, and of limited use on my JD diesel. Worked great on the Onan generator though!

CNH = Case New Holland, your local tractor dealer. He is still the best place to get your OEM old Ford tractor parts.
