Hey DELL I think I figured it out.....nope not the governor.....I cant" believe neither you or Bob suggested a simple check of the air flow to carb..... ..... ..I was showing the tractor problem to a friend of mine today, and showing him how when I pulled the throttle manually past a given point it went from reving up to choking and sputtering..... .. when I thought what if I just pull the air intake off and see if that helped and..... ..wallaaaaa aaaa..... ..it didn"t sputter anymore but just kept reving up like its supposed to..... ..I haven"t tried it with a load or under working conditions but I"m sure that was the problem..... ..I just can"t figure out how the oil bath filter could get that clogged..... ....I just changed the oil in it not to long ago but it must be something else..... I"ll take it apart and examine it to see where its clogged..... ..

Thanks anyway guys for the suggestions..... .....

Ron, you get answers based on the best information available at the time...

As to "SPUTTERING", well, you can see that there is LEAN sputtering and RICH sputtering... It is incumbent on you, to the best of your experience, to communicate which way it was going. It has EVERYTHING to do with the answers you may get. If you reported black smoke (or noticed any), that may well have changed the tenor of others best guesses.

Also, congrats to you for reporting back on your findings... it adds nicely to the collective knowledge.

Just my thoughts, duey

Ron Tron, When I got my tractor the air cleaner was clogged from top to bottom with DIRT. I cleaned that all up but wondered why? since the upper part is supposed to be DRY. I filled the bottom CUP with clean oil and set the assembly aside.

When I went to install the assembly on the Tractor it had somehow tipped on its side and Oil was now coating everything.

I learned not to put oil in the CUP until the assembly was mounted on the tractor.

JMHO

Ron..... ...WOW, that is weird. Clogged oilbath luftfilter. Well, the filter center 1-in round hole could attract mice nests stuffing. Loose enuff for sufficient airflow at idle and starting but nott enuff for higher rpms. Remember, we can only guess as well as you can describe. And I'll confess, clogged airfilter is way down on my guessing list (invisible)..... ..thanks for follow-up, Dell

Hmm.. I would have figured that as a standard maint item and as already been checked before i started looking at 'real' problems. (grin)
