1939 Ford 9N, has aluminum dash and tranny cover with dipstick. Should hood be aluminum ?? Engine has no freeze plugs. ALSO, when did they stop the round hole around the radiator spout and go the the keyhole style ?? Or whatever they call it. Thanks

Sam - I know a little about the 1939 9Ns as I have one. I can tell you that there is cast aluminum in quite a few places due to Ford not having the casting in place yet. The dash, shifter cover, battery shelf, inspection covers, hydraulic lever quadrant, and grill were all alumunum. Only the first 700-800 tractors had the alumunum hood, that is why they are very rare to find.

As far as the freeze (welsh) plugs - there has been some debate on this. Check CAREFULLY behind your oil filter canister and your starter - or at the very back of the block, I'll bet you find this plug. You can't cast anything this large without a way to remove the sand.

HTH,
Dan
