Leaking Oil Filter

Just wondering---there was a post about 3 weeks ago about someone having problems with getting the gasket for the oil filter to fit and stop leaking.

This weekend I changed oil on one of my 8N's and began mowing on 15 acres. I noticed a drop in oil pressure after about an hour which was unusual for this tractor (runs at 40 lbs. hot).

You can imagine my surprise to see the oil flowing out of the oil filter.

Something I have noticed----the gasket that comes with filters that I have purchased from 3 different vendors of 8N parts have all leaked or needed "stretching". They seem to be a bit undersized.

The NAPA 1010 and the FRAM C3 I do not have any problems with.

Has anyone else had any issues with any of these filters?

That quick drop in oil pressure sure scared the heck out of me. When I looked at the gasket, there was an area about the length of a nickel, that was not making any contact at all with the filter canister----

Is there a quality control issue with some of the filters, or just a bit of "unlucky" draw.

Tim

8Ner: I had the exact same problem with the cheap oil filters sold by an internet supplier. I switched back to the NAPA 1010 and have not had a problem. As suggested, I did reinstall an old NAPA 1010 rubber gasket to stop the leak. Mine started leaking as soon as I cranked it up. I'll eithe use Case New Holland or NAPA filters from now on. GA JIM

In a pinch I'd reuse one of the old napa gaskets.

I would have figured I would have heard of this before if it was a chronic problem. Myself, I have always used the NAPA Gold 1010 filter made by Wix. Mostly because it is one of the best filters on the market and made well. I guess SOMETHING has to suffer when you start pinching pennies making those cheap filters people are selling out there in the market...

Go to a NAPA and pick up several "good" filters to keep on hand and forget about using those cheaper ones - your engine desrves it.
