Have a 9N with Marvel-Schebler Carb. Can"t seem to stop the fuel from flooding the throat. Float seems to be working. Can"t figure out how fuel is getting past float valve. Any ideas? Thanks.

atticus..... ...you write..... ."Float seems to be working. Can"t figure out how fuel is getting past float valve. Any ideas?"..... ...yep, yer float SEAT isn't tight enuff. You need a WIDEBLADE hollow-ground screwdriver so you don't bugger-out that soft brass float seat slots and then HONK-DOWN on that sucker. I have a "custom-ground" wide-blade square-shank screwdriver "dedicated" to the float-valve tightening requirement ($10, cheap) And it'll be real cheap after you bugger-up the valve seat screw slot. Theres lottza "make-doo" you can use to span across the slots and fit-tite. (broken hacksaw blade and vise-grips, gitt the idea???)..... ..Dell

Remove your carb and take the bowl off, remove the float and shake it next to to your ear to see if it has any fuel in it.Next check the needle seat to see if its tight, they work loose sometimes and that will cause it to flood over. With the seat tight check or replace the needle and seat Get a rebuild kit.Set float with carb upside down check the float level and set it @1/4" measured from the nearest face of the float to the gasket. Check your gasket,if its ok replace bowl and reinstall carb.

If it was working fine and all of a sudden started doing this, you probably have a piece of grit hung up in the float valve. Sometimes rapping on the side of the carb with the handle of a screwdriver with the gas on will rattle it out of there. If that does not work, it's not too hard to replace the valve and seat. Get the minimalist rebuild kit and leave the jets alone, just clean the inside of the carb real good while you have it apart. Make sure you have good clean screens in it when you put it back together.

If this happened right after a carb rebuild, the valve and seat are either junk parts, or the seat isn't screwed all the way down. You might have to make a tool to span both slots in the seat in order to get enough leverage.
