My recently purchased 9N has very little braking ability. (OK, it has none). Any help out there on what I can do to increase my stopping ability on this tractor.

Third Party Image

After removing the tire and axle, everything comes apart easy.

Sure seals fit over the existing bearing seal and keeps the oil away from the brakes.

Grease the bearings first, then install the sure seals.

yea - those are from 5 years ago. I did the right brake first since it doesn't have the complicated clutch linkage like the left.

never got around to the left one. I have the parts somewhere I think.

All you have to do...Is disconnect the clutch linkage. The clutch and brake pedal come off with the drum and axle.

Oil leaking out of the brake drums? Inside of rim oil soaked? Any oil at all on the brake shoes is not good. If you dont have sure Seals you need them.

Yep, oil on the brakes is the most likely cause. The sump might be too full. Check that first before spending time and dollars on new seals. Parking on level ground helps too.

Any spray on Brake Cleaner will clean them up and give you some stopping ability, but if the oil is still leaking it won't last long.
