Hey guys, I lost the PTO pin that connects my 9N to a Ford 951 mower. What size and style of PTO pin do I use to connect my mower to the override clutch on my 9N? Also thanks so much. Your advice about the genny and the belt tension sure helped me fix my overheating problem. I was able to get my garden plowed and mowed all day and it never overheated ...What fun! I love riding my 9N.

Over Running Coupler in reply to gcbarnette-9N daughter, 05-10-2007 07:50:14
As a newbie with an 8N with a 5' Howze brush hog. Could someone direct me to information on the Over Running coupler. I was advised to insure and use it for safety. What does it look like. Is there perhaps a website of a seller. Thank you

Russell..... ...here is a picture of an ORC (over running coupler). They come in 4-different PTO size and sexx combinations so you don't haffta use extra adapters. The N-Tractor PTO originally came as a 1-1/8" 6-spline. In the mid-50's the ASAE changed PTO specifications to 1-3/8" 6-spline. So having a "built-in size-change" is advantageous. How do you know which PTO size you have on yer tractor, measure it, simple eh? It ain't a micrometer kinda thing.

ALL modern brushhogs are 1-3/8" female 6-spline sliding PTO shaft. You will haffta sacrifice several hacksaw blades to the PTO gods and cut BOTH sliding ends about 3"-SHORTER. Don't worry, PTO shafts are made to be cut, but they're tuff'n'hell steel. Cuttin' torch leaves a too-ruff end-cut, so you really haffta dress-it with grinder. Install with 5/16x2" rollpin thru the removable grease zerks.

The ORC prevents all that rotary inertial energy from back-driving thru yer PTO shaft into yer tranny and out the diffy where yer engine clutch and BRAKES DON'T WORK. And will drive yer tractor into the corner of the barn, fencepost, powerpole, creekbank, irrigation ditch, wife's car (don't ask). $60 (cheap)..... ..Dell the ORC safety preacher

S-----take a minute, and go to the Research and Info section to the left of your screen.

Go into the Articles Section and read some great info in the "Choosing, Mounting and Using a Brush Hog Type Mower" article.

Hope it helps with the Safety Issue----the hog will bite you or someone else if you are not careful----they are fun to use though---Tim

Barneys daughter..... ...I am glad to hear you are using an OverRuning Coupler on your 9N's PTO to run your "brushhogg". Usually the ORC is held on by 5/16-2in "split-rollpin". Very commonly available at good hardware stores (ask); good automobile parts stores (ask); almost enny tractor parts counter. ($50c, cheap)

The PTO attaching rollpin is "hidden behind both grease-zerks. (remove both) Removal and re-installation is by "nail-punch & hammer". Check that you can manually turn the ORC against its 1-way clicker, if not, re-center the pin so it does. Simple, eh?..... ..Dell, yer ORC Safety Preacher

If I understand your question correctly, you need the pin, (quick disconnnect) on the yoke on the mower. These pins are no longer available unless you can find someone that had some in stock. Yes I have some. Call me at 270-786-3600. If its the pin that holds the O.R. Coupler to the tractor, thats a 5/16" X 2" Roll Pin.
Thanks..... ..Kelly.

Not sure about the 951, but the manual for my 901 Cutter specifies a 5/16 X 2.5" bolt, lock washer and nut.

Hi , I don"t know the size of the roll pin , but what you may be able to do is ; find a nail that"ll work & the take the nail to a hardware store & find a roll pin the size of the nail . I"ve done it that way before . Now I carry an extra roll pin in my tool box incase I loose one again . Hope this helps . God bless, Ken
