Well after all the trouble of getting the tractor running and she was running great, now the hydraulics locked up high .
when I started the tractor they were down because I was not using them.
But I went to lift them and they lifted but would not stop and then stuck in the highest position, now they wont come down.
This happened before and i used a bobcat bucket to force them down.
The guy who sold it to me said it happens and thats whaat he does.
Well...
I would like to have it working properly so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like ya might have lotsa gunk in the hydro oil.. pull the dipstick cover first and make sure the control arm is moving the valve in the pump... if it ain.t . then help it.

if it is.. then exhaust valve must be plugged up.

Drain oil, flush / clean sump.. replace oil... remove corner test port.. oil should shoot out and drop lift arms... start her up and see what you get.

If that don't do it.. be planning on dropping the pump to pull the valve for cleaning..

Who makes the best hydraulic oil for 8N's?
What is your personal favorite or do I just go with what the manual says?
I know sometimes the specs aren't exactly the best products as things have changed since those manuals were last printed.

Couple choices.

90wt gl1 or 2 mineral gear oil..

napa sells it as # 65-205 90w gl1

TSC sells it in a pail calling it ford transmission oil 1939-1952

You can also use a 80w or 90w gl5 or 5 oil that is yellow metal safe. Castrol and penzoil both make a version. the penzoil is called gearplus

Also.. you can use a modern UTF type fluid.. one that is compatible with CNH spec M2C134D

if your hyds are weak or leaky.. they will be worse with the utf oil. If they are slow in a cold climate. they will be faster with UTF.

price is about the same either way.. as you will need about 5g to do the job..

I will try tonight.
It's running like a top now, just got to get those arms pumping.
I'll post back with results.
