I finally had time to install the new starter drive on my '50 8N, but now, it only gives me a low "growl" when I try to start it. The battery has a fresh charge & tested. New cables, ALL connections are clean, bright, & tight, & the starter mating surfaces were wire brushed to a bright finish. I even wire brushed the starter bolts & I STILL don't get anything but the low growl. Is it time for a starter rebuild, or am I simply overlooking something?

Poot..... ...ya done EVERYTHING electrical you can do. Iff'n yer starter doesn't turn yer engine and start it, then its time for mechanical inspection. Probably needs new brushes and polished copper-bars of the commutator.

Don't forget, to ears used to the zinging of 12-volt rice-rocket starters, the rumpa-rumpa of a 6-volt starter is scary..... ..Dell

I'd be happy with the "rumpa-rumpa of a 6 volt starter". IF I can ever get there. I usta call this thing "Baby", but now she's gettin' more & more like a cranky ol' "Blue Haired" biddy out at the Menopause Meadows rest home!! :-{

check and see if you oil line might be touch the starter. that's most of the problem. anyway move the line away from that area just 1/4 or a 1/2 inch and see what happen ...
oh yeah it would do it when I turn my starter over, and stop when it off....
