3-Wire or 2-Wire?

Folks,

I'm working on a Ford 851 tractor that was long ago converted to 12V Negative ground. The wiring harness is a bag of worms, brittle, ready for the bin. Are the 12V wiring harnesses sold by this site or others 1-wire or 3-wire hook-up? They don't specify. The tractor's alternator is a Delco 3-wire.

I figure someone on here has 'been there, done that!".

Thanks,

Ray

Even if it was a 1 wire harness.. it don't kake much to add that 3rd wire with e-tape to run along the harness. If you have a proper 3 wire in place. then your isolation device can be reused as well as the '2nd' wire short jumper.. etc.

So all it boils down to is if you need to add that 1 wire... thus.. i wouldn't loose any sleep over it..

Thanks, Chris, that's reassuring. I'll go ahead and order one of the replacement harnesses.

Best regards,

Ray

I would imagine 3 wire, the one I bought way back from another site was 3 wire. You could use a 3 wire on a one wire, so it would make sense to sell all 3 wire. If you get a proper 3 wire, it will have the diode buried in the harness so you can plug and go. I got mine from Genesee, would advise going there.

Ramrod,

I went to Genesee's web site. They are a wealth of info on the 10-SI conversion. Did you just buy the bit of the harness for the alternator, or the entire tractor's wiring harness?

Best regards,

Ray

I bought the ss ign and coil, plus the engine wiring harness. It is a very nice harness, diode is in there for the 3 wire alternator, and it looks great. It was a great start that I have built on to so now I have a custom wiring harness that looks like it oughta. I added relays for the ignition circuit, lighting, and of course the OOO GAAA horn. The boys at Genesee will give you great customer service after the sale too.
