Hi: New to the 8N world, requesting help from the experts. I have an 8N that does not want to steer left. The steering wheel seems to be unscrewing right out of the post when I try to turn left. The steering wheel turns to the right nicely and the wheels turn to the right but the wheel "backs" itself out of the column when I try to turn left. I end up steering with the left brake! Thanks for any help.

upper shaft bearing is wore out to the point it is not there anymore complete rebuild is in order. and everything must be cleaned to remove pieces of old bearing that have fallen down to the rest of the parts.

Don't use gear lube, use John Deere Corn Head Grease. Get it at yout JD dealer. And yep, classic worn out bearing in steering box symptoms.

Sounds like bad bearings in the steering box . You may as well go to your local NH dealer & get everything for rebuilding your steering box . Its not a hard project . If I can do it , you can .The hardest part is getting the steering wheel off . When you're done rebuilding , fill the box with 80-90 wt gear lube . I put too much lighter stuff in mine & regret it .Once you reassemble its hard to take any oil back out without tearing it apart again . So I just let mine leak . It'll quit I hope eventually . Good luck & God bless . Ken
