Brush hog blades hit stump and the lever that engages the hydralic pump jumped out of being in the down position. I had to set the hydralic lever back to the ON position. I seems like the lever has alot of play now, it did disengage one more time while cutting grass. Does anyone have an idea of what I have to do to fix the lever so it dosn't jump out of the ON position? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Just for clarity sake.. that lever is the pto engagement lever.. it's not commonly refered to as the pump lever.. even though the pto does drive the pump.

You could also have damaged bearings or other parts in the pto carrier assembly.. park nose down in a ditch and pull those 4 bolts for inspection...

If anything int he shaft assembly is FUBAR.. my recomendation is to get the new 99$ pto shaft/bearing/seal assembly vs trying to disassemble and trying to repair / repalce individual parts...

You might need a new PTO shaft. The shift lever operates a sliding clutch that engages and disengages the PTO shaft from the output from the transmission. Usually hitting a stump will bend the shaft, but occasionally the damage is in the PTO clutch assembly.

It is usually not hard to remove the PTO shaft for inspection, unless it is bent. Drain the hydraulic fluid or drop the front wheels into a ditch and remove four bolts, it should slide right out.

The cutter should have had a shear pin or slip clutch that is supposed to act as a fuse and prevent damage to the tractor.

Wasn't sure where to start looking, now I know I have to look at the pto shaft. I'll also check on the shearpin which I know is installed, I might need one that breaks off sooner so my pto shaft won't get damaged again. Thanks again.
