Priced a starter bolt to replace my threaded rod home made starter bolt and the first Ford/NH dealer wanted to order one for $27.50 plus freight. The second dealer wanted $21.50 to order plus freight. But he was an honest man and gave me a name of an electrical motor shop in PA Dutch country and I called and they had one. Stopped by today as I was near on a business trip and the price was $2 including tax. I could have fallen over.

Dell,
No, it's the 8" long bolt I needed to replace the all thread make shift one that holds the starter on.

There is absolutely no reason fer them to try and rob a person like that. I also had a 5/8" bolt fer the radius rod handed to me and was told it was $14.00+tax. I said "No way, put it back on ye shelf". I found a suitable replacement at TSC fer a total of $0.85. That was over a year ago, still working just fine.

I buy all hardware at 1.50 to 2.00 per pound.A well stocked supplier would have sold this bolt for under a dollar.I remember being quoted 8.00 for a baler knife bolt at an equipment dealer.I found one for 73 cents. One dealer said 40.00 for a brush rigging for a 96 ford starter.Good thing he didnt have it.One phone call got one for 16.49 priority mail included.

Doggy..... ...was that the dealer price for the "entire" starter rebuild kit? Our host, Yesterdays Tractors, sells this FULL KIT for $10.24 (cheap). Yep, going directly to generator/starter repair people is always cheaper than going thru the tractor dealer middleman who don't know how to rebuild ennyways 'cuz they sub-contract repair out to the generator/starter shop ennyways. Thats just the way it works..... ...Dell
