I believe it is a good idea to replace the battery in any vehicle before they have a chance to get into an end-of-life mode. Why? When the battery actually fails, it can often mess up the alternator and/or voltage regulator. The 6-volt generator system in my 8N is a good bit sturdier than an alternator, but I will still replace the battery in a couple of years even if it is still working. Unexpected failures just suck. A premium battery might last a couple years longer but stretching the life as long as possible does not seem like a good bet to me when I am risking the hassle of a sudden failure and damage to other parts. I buy mid-range quality batteries on sale and replace them before they have a chance to leave me stranded somewhere. This same philosophy applies to things like tires, hoses, belts, etc. Should I replace the hoses now, or let them go another year and risk having to replace the cylinder head? My 2-cents kl
