.29 is a huge gap.. even gargantuan.... I'm surprised it even runs when pulled.

Front mount normal gap .s .015

side mount normal gap is .025

Magneto gap, if using the FM-J4B73 mag is .020 ( .5mm for you metric guys ) And yes.. there is an impulse coupling. ( by the way..all this info is in the manual... ya got one of those right??? if not.. why not???)

If you have a MAGNETO on it, as was used during war years on some, don't use battery distributor specifications.

Did the magneto use an impulse coupling? I have not been around the tractor version... but what the impulse couple does is retard the spark so it doesn't kick back against the hand crank (OUCH!) plus it delivered a hot spark at a slow cranking speed.

So if the impulse coupling doesn't work, there is no spark at crank speed. Pulling the tractor is different.

The preceding is all about magnetos, not battery ignition. You used the word "MAG" so I'm assuming... & it sounds like impulse coupling to me. duey

Point gap is way to wide. Now being a mag instead of distubutor I'm not sure what they should be set at but I think I would try the .015 first and see if it works. I know the setting for the distubutor type is .015 so it should be about right for a mag also

Your points are set way off. FO-4 says set them at 0.015. Try that and it might start. If you have them set at .29 that is over 1/4". No wonder it won't start.
