Guys..... .heres a tip: lookin' fer a really good mechanic? check his secret stash of customized tools (bent, welded, ground, cut-off, modified, etc) Case in point.....

I needed some very thin valve tappet wrenches to change a part. I carefully checked the "flats" dimension, 9/16" according to my dial caliper. Now its been 30yrs since I needed to adjust valve tappets and dang iff'n I can find that vinyl roll of el-cheapo tappet wrenches. So I'm rummaging 'round and find this 1/4" thick el-cheapo 9/16" open wrench. NOT part of my "Snap-on" set.

So out with the angle grinder, and SPARKIES AWAY for 'nutter customized wrench. Finally gott it thinned to about 1/8" thick and it will fitt the gapp..... except.....it won't fit the "flats"..... .WTF??? Out with the calipers again..... flats are slightly wider'n 9/16"..... .its METRIC!!! 15mm. So NO, I ain't gonna grind my Metric Snap-On's neither.

So now I'm searching for the word..... ...awe shoot? naw, AH goozeinntite? naw..... time-to-quit and go shopping tomorrow..... .thats the word....QUIT..... ..the bummed Dell

Suuuure and it is a FINE THING that our toolboxes can't tell tales about us!! There are a bunch of us whom would not show their faces again and I perhaps am their KING!!

It gives you something you can't buy . . . and that is EXPERIENCE!!! The gift that keeps on giving!!

Bummed,

Kinda like my pappy used to say: Measure twice, cut once.

But all is not lost; it should be intuitively obvious that the angle grinder will fit inside the wrench opening too. A couple of sparky-swipes and 9/16 becomes 15MM. Ya already buggered up the wrench. What's the harm? Me? I'd mount the grinder in the vice and lightly work the wrench over the gtinder face until it fit. Respectfully, Steve

Or as *my* pappy used to say, "I cut it twice and it's still too short."

;o)

Since you were already grinding a cheaper wrench, I would have gone ahead and ground the flats a tad to make it fit...
