Took the steering apart. Found bearing ball retainers wedged in the sectors preventing right hand steering. Lower bearing #3571 together and good. Upper bearing #3571 has no posts holding the balls in place(they were wedged in the sectors). Now, I find that there is another bearing #3517 inside the upper tube about 3" front the top. Spins nice(press fit?). Does that have to come out and be replaced and how? The upper bearing CUP #3552 I cannot find(not sure if it was in there) or if it is under the very top bearing #3517. Also, in the lower housing where the lower bearings sits in the bearing race below ball & nut...there is a hole on the front side and rear side of the race(lower housing part). Are they SUPPOSE to be there? I took photos of the holes so if anyone wants a picture to better understand...email me at ajward@fronteirnet.net and I will send them. Also, on the actual steering shaft there is a step above the worm gear(machined that way), well there is like a grind mark on it and it may be from the bearing posts(have photo also). Any help guys?

Art..... ..that p/n 3517, bearing, is kinda MISS-NAMED. it just keeps yer hollow steering shaft (that has the ball-nut) "centered" in the steering tube. I wouldn't mucka'round with it. It has NO LOAD effect or support function.

Bearing race (cup) (p/n 3552) should be typical bearing press-fit in BOTTOM of yer steering tube. look closer.

You write..... "in the lower housing where the lower bearings sits in the bearing race below ball & nut...there is a hole on the front side and rear side of the race(lower housing part). Are they SUPPOSE to be there?"..... that slot? is usually for bearing race (cup) removal. Bearing races (cups) are usually a "press-fit" ....ie.... HAMMER'em home or out with chisel. (grin)

You write..... "on the actual steering shaft there is a step above the worm gear (machined that way), well there is like a grind mark on it and it may be from the bearing posts"..... .That "step" is where yer missing/destroyed bearing cage (p/n 3571) is supposed to fit. try it on fer size..... ..HTH, Dell
