I was messin with my new ( to me ) '46N & noticed the badge was corroded, not painted. I used WD-40 & fine steel wool & cleaned it up. It doesn't appear to have ever been painted & has 2N stamped just below the Ford logo. It is also 1" smaller than the 8N badges. The badge seems to be made of aluminum, so the question is: were the original 2N badges painted or just polished? neither of my 8Ns have the model stamped on the badge..

The material of the 9N and 2N badges was only zinc die cast. There is no sign of chrome rims or script, rather the spec was clear lacquer over zinc P-65. The tiny 2N was in the depressed painted area below the Ford script, and was supposed to be covered with paint. There is no sign of there being a -B design of any other material. The 8N badges, tho, had a zinc die cast first version and a -B which was steel. These did have chrome outer rim and script.

I think there was a -B suffix badge that was aluminum, but don't quote me.

None o fthe other badges had a model designation. As yuo found out. the 2n was ont here to distinguish it from a 9n.. and 8n had a different badge anyway.

Can't help you on original finish..
