While disassembling my engine (1950 8N) the exhaust valve guides had o ring seals. The intake side did not. All 4 were missing. Are they supposed to be there? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine had them on exh. and intake so I put new ones back on all of them. They were not hard and burnt up as some say. Can't hurt a thing. Might not help but sure can't hurt. Your call.

No seals on the exhaust valve guides.

I worked in an automotive machine shop for years and still have free access to the shop at any time and I dont remeber seals on the exhaust side as Jane said also.

One thing to check for sure is valve stems for wear and valve guids for wear also.

I have seen customers bring in blocks to have new liners installed because the customer thought the liners were worn out and nine out of ten of the blocks didnt need the liners replaced because the valve guides were wore slap out along with the valve stems being worn but I went ahead and installed the new liners because the customers had already bought master rebuild kits.

Make sure they check the guids and stems for wear and always have your crankshaft miced to make sure what size bearings you will need.

You or the machine shop can mic the o.d. of the valve stem to see if their worn and use a new valve or an already run valve thats in spec to check how tight the valve quide bores are.

Hope this helps.
