I have a problem with my starter motor...my 9N engine is indeed installed on my 1941 Ford GP jeep...so, maybe details could be different...but in this case all involved parts are 9N.
so...when I tried to fire engine first time, starter motor failed. I checked the 6v battery, then I tried also to feed starter motor (not coil) on 12v. no replies. I changed the jumping cables with heavy duty (4gauge) ones. nothing.
so, I had (new redone) starter checked and reassembled by an old professional. nothing, starter motor is ok...also bendix is fine. when switched on, starter makes a very small turn, then stucks. I am a the stage of checking flywheel gear ring...at first sight it seems all ok...I can think about a bad repro part...how many teeths has a 9n ring?
I have to turn engine manually...but I had a good strating crank only today...so tomorrow I will check...
any suggestion? tks!

Take all four spark plugs out. Make sure your battery has a full charge. Make sure the jeep is in neutral. DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION ON. Turn the engine over about 3 revs. Sometimes on a new rebuilt engine it needs a little oil in the pistons before the battery can turn it over.
If it still won't turn over, put the plugs back in and have someone push or pull ya to start it. Make sure ya got good oil pressure if it fires.

I'm with Gary.. I didn't realize it was a fresh rebuild.

If you did't do it you need to know that it has lubrication, before it starts.

I would try my best to get the oil pressure to come up with the starter, and with the plugs out, or however before trying to crank it.

Might want to dump a teaspoon or two of oil down each plug hole.

BTW: I would love to be able to play with that... LOL

"starter makes a very small turn, then stucks"

Does "stucks" mean quit turning, or spin freely?

Just for simple right off you need to make sure that all of your electrical connections are clean, bright, and tight.

It may just be that where the front of the starter, and the block where it attaches is corroded/rusted, those places need to be clean as well.
