The threads on the axle on my 54 NAA are so bad the nut just spins. I'm gonna order a new one and a hub. In the meantime, I need to move the tractor in and out of the shop. Since the axle is trashed anyway, could I just drill a hole through it and put a pin through the nut and the axle until the new one arrives? I just don't want the wheel falling off while I'm moving it around.

Pete..... .the 2-piece squeeze'em axle nut ($25, cheap) will hold yer NAA hub on that supper-hard rearaxle no matter what condition the threads are in. You ain't gonnna drill NO HOLE in that supper tuff axle for ennysort of lock-pin.

And surprizingly enuff, usually just the internal threads of the 1-piece factory nut goes bad. And even more amazing, yer trashed nut has been bypassed and yer hub is being held on by...THE BRAKE-DRUM!!! It really takes some side-loads such as going around sharp corners to walk that drumb off'n the end of the axleshaft..... ..Dell

A squeezum nut would probably work.. or if you intend to trash them.. Save the drill bit on that semi-hard axle.. just slide the nut on and tack weld it..just a blip will do.. then grind off to remove..
