This is the first time I've posted. I have read the threads and have gotten many great tips and directions. Thanks for the help in the past.

I have a '52 8N, and I have the loader attached (it is a ford loader found on many 8Ns). When in 2nd gear, the trans will slip into 2 gears and lock up. I take the cover off, get it out of gear, put the cover back on, and I am fine. Then, it will happen again. It seems to happen when under a little stress (not a lot). I was cleaning out our horse corral, and when going into a pile of manure this would happen. It does not seem to happen in any other gear (1st, 3rd, or 4th). I have installed a new shifter spring, but it did not help the problem. When I used the cultivator (the loader is still on) and in 2nd gear, I did not have the problem of it slipping into two gears. It only seems to happen when pushing and not pulling. This tractor does not have the high/low transmission option.

Does anyone have any suggestions or run across this problem before?

Dakota..... ..since you already know how to open-up yer 8N's tranny, take a real close look at yer shifter plates for wear. But iff'n I hadda guess, I'd guess your tranny housing is CRACKED from ABUSE and it is FLEXING.

Remember, even though you have the jungle-jim FEL, the tranny-housing is still part of the FEL support..... .Dell

Will look at the shifter plates. Hopefully the housing is not cracked.
