When plowing near a house, if you look back and suddenly see one and three inch PVC pipes sprouting from your freshly turned soil, most likely it is your sprinkler system.
Don't ask me how I know.
Fortunately, it was not the field lines for the septic system which were about three feet lower in exactly the same spot!

Naw,, best yet is finding that durn logging chain your Dad lost some time back.. Had to be about 15 feet long, about 3/8 inch. The cotton picking Squealer mower jerked it up out of the weeds and wrapped it around the blade before I could shut it down!! Grrrr.. Took the better part of half day to get it all unwrapped.. But, I did go ahead and sharpen the blades while I had them off.

As a kid I cut the phone pole guy wire with the yard mower once,, durn near lost that pole before the power company came and replaced the wire.

Yep, this stuff winds up on ye mower and stops the pto from turning at all. Ye need to get the mower up to get the stuff out but ye can't cause the pto has to run fer the lift to work, ain't that a beech?

Comcast buried cable TV lines without my knowledge under power lines on my property. Every time I plow I end up with a nice bunch of wires around my plow. About a day later they put 'em back in. After 5 years of this I'm wondering how to fight them on it.

Dell, just a thought, but.... in reply to Del19, 06-09-2007 07:55:10
I would start by calling the power company & asking them if THEY granted Comcast an easement to bury cables on THEIR easement.

My biggest problem is using the rotary mower to find all the wire hay bale ties out in the pasture. Been here 5+ years and still wrap one or two up every year. Best time to find 'em (for proactive removal) is in the winter with 3" of snow on the ground...

Dog tie-outs are my personal favorites. You know, the plastic coated cables that just appear in the strangest places (Why the h*ll would she tie the dog here?)and end up around the mower blades.

a few years before he died,my dad took his 8N (now mine) to plow a garden for an older neighbor lady..he pulled out of the ground and cut into about a 3" phone line with hundreds of tiny wires in it..the whole area was without phone service for 2 days while it got repaired

Another neat thing to do with an N is when your useing a flail mower you can easily gather up 1/2 black plastic water pipe. It finds it when hidden in the long grass and neatly wraps it up on the drum. Only problem, it is a bear to get off, you have to cut it in little pieces.

Actually, this home was built by my now deceased in-laws. The sprinkler system went south about two years after they moved in 22 years ago. It was long forgotten. The heads are buried I know not where. I do know, however, where some of the water lines are now!

Not at my house. I only water what I have to gather to eat, not what I have to mow so I can walk through to get to the house. Let it dry up.

Isn't it amazing how easy it is to find underground water and electrical lines with a N tractor and a plow!!!
