i read earlier that gl-5 is not yellow metal friendly. i thought it was. how long before it hurts anything in the rear end of an 8n? do i really need to change it to gl-1?

I really can not answer the question on how friendly it is but I can say that I ran 134 for the first 4 years I had my tractor, then finally from this site and the manuals seen GL1 90W mineral oil is prefered. I made the switch and found it improved my lift a great deal. The only draw back I found was it was a bit slower raising the 3pt when the temps dropped real low.

I think using the gL1 is a good investment in the health of the equipment.
