Hi Dell, nice to see ya again.

Did you ever hear of a CHURCH goi(N) bankrupt?

Well, as I reported before on this site, an old farm friend's land is adjacent to the former CHURCH radio transmitter tower. Now there are no lights on at night that are on the radio tower.

The public AUCTION for the "religious" land is coming up next week. The opening bid must be $500,000.

I am think(n) 'bout showing up at the auction to see who buys the land.

What are your thoughts about informing the new owner that that tower should either be lighted at night, or, dismantled.

I have no authority to do 'nutt(N). Maybe, though in the interest of safety I should just let my conscious be my guide. If I do, however, I will be again labeled "HOSTILE". Worth it or not?

Thanks, counselor.

John PA

How tall is the tower? My understanding of this is unless the tower is 200' AGL or higher it doesn't need to be lighted unless in the vicinity of an airport or other aircraft landing area (helicopter, etc.).

Trouble is, according to the FEDERAL SPONSORED WASHINGTON area sectional charts, the tower is listed for height, and, also lighted. VFR chart.

PA state-type VFR map also shows the tower.

Therefore, according to my understanding from the REGIONAL FAA FSDO, anytime there are changes from one "chart" printing to another, pilots are to notify the FAA and STATE ASAP.

I personally did not measure the tower.

So, if'N there is an incident, the FEDS are the first to be sued, then the STATE, and finally the owner of the tower. Depends on how serious the incident.

The charts also show this immediate area as "uncontrolled airspace", ( Controlled airspace starts 1200 ft. above the ground), 1 mile visibility, and "clear of clouds"is all that is required to be VFR.

So, as long as the aircraft is 500 above the ground over villages, the aircraft can be any altitude above the ground as long as the pilot is not causing potential personal injury to persons on the ground. VFR, Day or Night.

I always told the crews of the medi-vac helicopters to fly directly OVER the ROADS when retreiving car accident victims in this particular area. Especially at night. or reduced visibility.

My mail-pilot dad always told me : Always fly on the RIGHT side of the ROAD, because there could be someone coming down the other side.
Well, in this situation, the TOWER is just about 100 feet from the side of the ROAD.

SO, fly over the road. the wingspan of the helicopter or light plane will always be on a right-of-way, either FEDERAL, STATE, or local. Whereas, if you land your plane on PRIVATE owned property, the owner of the property could eventually own your plane.

GOOD NITE.

If the tower is over 199' tall, it must be lit. That is the tower owner's responsibility. I just bet you already know this.

John..... ...I'd report it to BOTH the FAA and FCC, let the Fed's do their job. Report it in WRITING to CYA, and cite "Aircraft Safety" and ask for the agency's response. Be prepared to also send a copy to yer local Newspapers. They "love" to gitt the Fed's titties in the wringers.

As fer Churches going "bankrupt"; happens all the time. Some legitimate; some tax dodge'em schemes; some lawsuit dodge'em schemes..... ..Dell, FCC 1st Class licensed 1958

Dell,

I just bumped into the Chief Principal of the FCC licensing bureau, here in the local FCC office.

We were both carrying out our small bags of groceries at the local food market.

I learned Paul to fly about 10 yrs. ago. He now bases the CORP. aircraft in Virginia.

Anyways, we are lucky. When we got our FCC licenses, they were for our lifetime, back then.

The newbies must renew theirs every 2 yrs, or be actively working professionally.

This is what is known as "you are still grandfather'D in."

Hey Dell,

I am NOT look(N) for any publicity on this matter.

Do you want me to be chastized FOR EVER????? ?

The BANK, owners of the land.....Been notified thru "UNDERCOVER WORK". They, the BANK MORTGAGE PEOPLE, must either TURN ONN THE LIGHTS, or DISMANTLE THE TOWER 30 DAYS from this ADVERTISEMENT.

I heard that the "bathroom" tileing, mom and pop outfit, pressed the issue for payment for their services. The the small CONTRACTOR, couldn't AFFORD to "DONATE" the job that they did for the CHURCH.

Goes this way, sometimes. RESPECTFULLY and with appreciation,

I remain.

This wholey issue reminds me:

Don't forget to check opn. of the ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitter) that I carry onboard our company van. Might have an important "food" transport mission come DECEMBER.
