about my hydraulic question yesterday

Several of you asked what I was going to use the hydraulic test port for when I was asking about it yesterday. I am in the process of restoring Dads old loader and I don't have all the parts yet for the front crankshaft driven pump. I recently bought two cylinders off Ebay and DO have the original control valve for the loader installed. I only wanted to temporarily plumb into the test port to see if the control valve (that has not been used in over 20 years) and the ebay cylinders work ok or will need more work. I intend to fix the front pump right and use it but I am getting anxious and want to see how bad if at all the cylinders or valve leak. Thanks for all the replies below.

Back when I first built my loader/backhoe on my '50 8n I used the test port to run them. For the return line I just removed the "dipstick" cover, and drilled/tapped it, reinstalled it. Slow, but it worked just fine.

Ron...do you have a trip-bucket or hydraulic bucket? I ask because the plumbing will be a little tricky controlling boom lift & bucket tilt both out of the test port. You'll have to rig up a return line to the tractor's center section.

third party image

actually neither....this tractor and lift was used when we first bought 125 acres of woods and brush in San Jacinto county Tx. We (I was 15 at the time) removed the bucket and built us a brush fork that slid up into the hollow tubing on the front of the loader. The picture is how it looked in 1968 or 69 after we had used the heck out of it. I am the teenager standing up beside Dad driving. The fork is now repaired/rewelded and I do not have a bucket for it.

I'd love to have some pics of us on the 8N from those days.

Enjoyed seeing yours anyway.

Yep, I looked at all the posts in the archieves last night. I"m just a tad bit impaitent and since I have wait a couple of weeks for my front pump parts I figured I would tie in at the test port and see how things were lookin :^) I got both cylinders for around 150 including shipping so I was pleased with that as they are off a ford loader identical to mine.

So are you just running two SA cyls for lift.. or is there a DA dump cyl in there too?? As another poster said.. if you are just running 2 SA lift cyls.. you won't need a return line or seperate valve.. if you are running a DA system, you will need a valve capable of doing Da.. and you will need to plumb a return line..
