my brother in law has a ford 9N tractor that hasn't been run for awhile and we want to work on getting it to start tomorrow and can't find a manual to tells what weight oil to use in the oil bath air cleaner. TSC was no help. The kid working there said they use gear oil? sounds wrong to me...maybe 30W like the old cars? Also this one was run to long between oil changes dirt is all up in the metal mesh, the cup was hard to get off for all the dirt caked in it? is there a good way to clean one of these that has been so poorly cared for?

Thanks for the help. We got 2 5qt containers 30W on sale at walmart as the the engine oil needs to be changed as well. With the new battery it cranks and has fire to the plugs...starts but won't stay running yet.

Tex..... ..use whatever oil yer using in yer engine, use fer yer oilbath cup. It takes 1-pint or 1/2-qt. Fill both inside and outside the ring. Yer engine uses 6-qts, when you change yer filter. Me? I use 1/2-qt of engine and fill the engine with 5-1/2qts of engine oil. And vola', yer engine oil dipstick will show 1/2-way between "full" and "add-qt". Since most people wait 'till engine oil level hits the "adda-qt" mark, then they can add 1-qt without worrying of overfilling. Simple, eh?..... ...Dell

any 30w or 40w oil is fine... even cheap stuff.. jiffy store or non detergent.. etc..

Remove the can and clean whole in the petro solvent of your choice.. or remove the metal gauze and clean in the petro solvent of your choice... There will be a clip ring holding it in.

Once cleaned and repacked.. dribble some oil in it to initially coat it.. then reinstall and then refill cup.
