Zane....THANKS for your input concerning older brothers and B-17's & P-51's and PBY Catalina's.

Couple of weeks ago, I took the B-17 brother to a WWII reenactment. As we arrived they (the US) troops had just "liberated FRANCE). Well by luck a "FRENCH" girl came up to my brother and "thanked him"! I took their picture.

Ole Dick, brother, really PERKED-UP when the girl started kiss'n him all over, just like in the old news reels. He kept telling the girl "my wife is dead, and, I can do this now".

He got an excellent report from the surgeon who worked on his legs the last time. Now Dick only has to go for inspections ANNUALLY.

So, as luck has it, I have been approached by the Museum people to consider being checked out in the B-17 that they use at the shows for tak'n passenger rides at $450.00 ea.

Thanks again. John,PA

My friend, a vietnam veteran, with his girlfriend, took a flight on a B-17 a week ago on Long Island. He took a lot of pictures of the island and the coastline. They enjoyed it a lot. He was surprised at how cramped it really is in there. The cost was about $350-400 each.(I think he said there were about 15 people on board)

I am not a brave man John. You won't catch me taking any rides in a B-17. It was a big gamble riding in the B-29s back in the mid 50 when they were only 10 years or so old. NOT!

Thanks, Dunk..... .

The medical center doctor said "I am not qualified to prescribe a motorized scooter for Brother Dick. He should have his 'family doctor' write a letter for him."

His "family doctor is from India, and I doubt if'N she understands about VETS!

I will write a letter for Dick and submit same to WASHINGTON headquarters, whenever he (DICK) orders me to do so.

As for being checked-out in the Museum's (Michigan Based) B-17..... .I didn't care for the current "FLIGHT ENGINEER". Or his starting procedures of the #4 engine.

The engines should only be turned over by the starter for a count of 5 "PROP Tips". The pilots each count the 2 engine's proptips from their positions. The Engineer can't see the props.

After 5 TIPS, the engineer should stop cranking. After 5 tips, the engine is "loaded-up". Well, this engineer kept turning the props for at least 50 and I stopped counting.

Just where would they find a starter in rural farmland? But it started!!!!! !

Finally the No. 4 engine started.

John,PA, Still think'n "maybe the Southern Museum of Flight". Birmingham, AL.,4 yrs. from now."

John, I may have one that he can have, just for a ride to NW GA.

Right this minute I will have to talk with family but she can't use it anymore, and it seems to work good.

I checked with BIG BROTHER, Dick.

He said, "tell your friend that I appreciate the offer, but I (Dick) will take care of things himself".

Dunk, maybe you should keep the "FAMILY" equipment. You never know when it will come in handy, even for yourself. Broken ankles and such like..... ... John

Thanks again for the offer. SIR.
