We have lift off! I had replaced the plugs and wires. I put on a new condensor even though the "old one" was almost new. When I was replacing the points I found that the metal coil had broken off AND the Primary Wire Connector was about 90% broken.

It appears to be one of those two things that have kept the tractor from firing up. Obviously it wouldn't start with the points coil broken but having the Primary Wire almost broken clear through wouldn't have helped.

Anyway... She's purring nice and smooth once again and has a complete tune-up to boot!

I've received a nice education on the electrics of the 8n from Dell and Phil and I think I still need to do a bit of tweaking with the wiring to get a working Ammeter.

Next chore? Flushing/draining the tranny/hydraulic fluid and installing a new PTO shaft. Too wet to work on my two acre plowing/ discing grass seedbed project.
Thanks to all of you for your help!

Ken

Glad you got her running. I was looking at the weather early... looks like you have had some rain over that way. None here today but it rained south of here and cooled things off third party image

Why would you want it to 'turn over?' That's an awkward way to drain the transmission even on something as small as a Ford.
Does it have one of those Roll(turn) Over Prevention Dingys?
You did good but to help with your learning curve next time change one piece at at a time and recheck the symptoms then you'll have a better idea what each part does or doesn't do to you. Broken wires in the ignition always cause no start conditions

Got the subject line in the top post a little backward.
