I have not been on this site for about three years. At that time I was working on a 2N.
I just purchased an 8n which jumps out of 1st gear when bush hogging downhill. I went for a real ride the day it happend the first time. Brakes arn't very good either. I have bee told it probably needs bearing in the tranny. can any of you tell me how much of a job this would be. Do I need a press or any special tools? I haven't got me a service manual yet but will be getting one.

Been there done that ,ride and all! You most likley need main and contershaft bearings ,also input shaft bearings .Take your time ,follow the manual, keep your work area as clean as posible and remember that some parts arekinda on the heavy side and you should do fine .A press is handy ,I also fabbed a offset brass punch to help knock out the old races, some folks say to run a beed of weld to shrink them .Good Luck and keep us posted on your success.

If you have the I-T FO-4 manual already you have the manual you need on hand. Sorry I can't tell you more since I have never been into an 8N tranny yet
