You still have to restrain the arms. But frankly I never asked myself what value is added by the setup and I was challenged to formulate an answer to your simple question. And frankly I never used the original valve I copied for much of anything:

I got it as part of a FEL rig that had single acting lift cylinders. It was originally used to control the lift arms via the 3pt lever. I guess the idea is that the external valve gives more precise control over the flow than just plumbing a single closed center type circuit from the test port. The internal valving in the N has a tendency to be "all or nothing" and the control lever linkage is pretty sloppy!

The loader was actually equipped with a hydraulic bucket and came with a very nice 2 spool DA Cross valve so I simply used the old valve as a junction point for plumbing the open center of the Cross valve. I kept the 3pt lever in the fully raised position when using the loader which sent a constant supply to the Cross valve and back again through the open side of the old loader valve. So any single spool SA open center valve would probably be a better solution than the old dump valve. Mount it right under the 3pt control and you'd just have a second lever to control the remote.

IIRC you were cobbling up a dump cylinder or similar last we spoke. From your question I'm guessing you plumbed it as a closed center circuit controlled by the 3pt lever and return via the test port. If so do you have any control issues in that kind of a setup?
