I have replaced the starter button, the starter, the starter solenoid, the battery, charged the new battery and gone through every wire and connection. When I try to start I sometimes hear one light click from the solenoid then nothing. THe other day we jumped the starter and the engine tried to turn slowly. Then I tried again and nothing but rapid clicks from the starter. I figured the slow turn meant a low battery (even though it measured 6.2 volts) so I charged it. When I re-intalled the battery...I get nothing not even a light click. What do I do next???

Bob you said,The other day we jumped the starter and the engine tried to turn slowly. Then I tried again and nothing but rapid clicks from the starter. Did you jump directly to the starter post?If you did and still nothing the starter may have gone south.Caution! Do not jump a 6 volt battery direct with 12 volts. It can explode if you didn't know that.

ya know...it may be as simple as most of the strands of the wire going to the solenoid are broke. if it is an old harness then i would check that. you can have 1 or 2 strands of a wire in tact and you will have proper voltage but NOT enough wire to allow much current flow through those couple strands...which will NOT allow a component to work. think i am crazy? i'm not, i know exactly what i'm talking about with that.

Hey, Uncle... in reply to UncleBob, 07-03-2007 07:36:04
while you're at it, don't forget to clean your buss bar, where it connects to your solenoid & starter.

Check the ground on the starter, which is metal to metal contact with the engine where it bolts up, so you may need to clean that area so the starter gets a good ground.
