wrecked 9N Ford tractor

My sweet little 1958 9N Ford tractor ran like a dream until it rolled down a hill and crashed into a tree.

The radiator is crushed along with the grill and hood. Broke the steering column. The gas tank leaked - can't tell if it's broken or what, punctured the battery. Before the battery went completely dead, it would try to start, so I think most everything else is okay.

I need advice on how to dismantle the hood and sides to get to the engine so cleanup and repair can start. This was a beautifully running tractor and once belonged to my Dad, so I am more interested in repairing than replacing it. Thanks for any help.

Well to be able to help we need to clear up what it is for sure. 9Ns where made from 1939-1942 and then they started makeing the 2N and made them from 1942-1948 and in 1948 they came out with the 8N and that was made till 1952. So you can't have a 1958 9N because they never made them. So to clear it up some so we can help tell use a few things. Does it have a 3 speed tranny or a 4 speed or maybe even a 5 speed. On the hood does it open all the way down the center of just a small say 1 foot by one foot door at the back of the hood?? If we know what you have we can help you a lot better since they don't all come apart the same. Also a picture helps a lot

#1 - the gas tank is attached to the hood, so disconnect the fuel line from the tank - remove bolts at dashboard and doglegs by fron wheels. Then get some patience as you try to wiggle it past the steering wheel and radiator cap at the same time.

#2 - fan, water pump, distributor, coil, and such are located between the engine and radiator - those will undoubtably need some work too.

It's amazing how well protected those components are and how much head on impact the tractor can absorb without damaging them. I'll leave it to you to figure out how I know that third party image

Anyhow..

Take out the bolts on the front on the hood "doglegs", take out the bolts around the dash, you may have to remove the steering wheel.

Disconnect the fuel tank line, and I think the air inlet, and make yer Ole Lady help you set the hood off.

I don't think I forgot much if anything, but don't hold me to that....

First, tell us more, as the 9N was made back in '39, not in '58. See if you can locate the serial number, hopefully you already know it. Is it a 3 speed or 4 speed tranny? That will get us started on the correct model, the serial number will tell us everything if you can get that to us.
