I saw this on ebay and thought it was a great idea.
Simple, effective, easy to make!

The other benefit to the 3pt receiver hitch is for us lazy folks who would prefer to sit in the pan seat than climb up and down... I have 5 different trailers and 2 hay wagons on my place, I currently use a locked draw bar with a stub (ball hitch that you can pop different size balls on the stub, I use it with no ball) so I just back under the trailer of choice lift pull forward and drop without getting out of the seat. Then the wife runs the mower through and I go back and put the trailers back in place. Can't do that with the one that hangs from the top link.

Now that being said, I am planning on trying to build one like Soundguy built for use with hay wagons and such, it just makes every bit of sence in the world to have something perfectly stationary for pulling hay wagons and such longer distances.

The right tool for the right situation and I don't think you can ever have too many tools!!! I hope not anyway!!!

If you look at the metal the reciever is made of, the vertical tubing appears to be almost as wide, so I'd guess it to be about 2" tubing. (It's a 2" reciever, but I believe that is 2" ID).

I wouldn't think this brace would have much stress on it based on the fact that most drawbar locks I've seen for sale are little more than sheet metal. Based on that, I suspect one could use almost any sturdy scraps you had laying around.

It is convenient that the tabs on the top of the vertical brace that attach to the top link are about as wide as the knuckle of the top link...

Too Tall....if you're making one from scraps, I think this one SouNdguy made is more stable, the toplink prevents uplift.

It pins to the stabilizer brackets & the toplink.

Lonestar,

I agree the one SouNdguy made is also a great design, and in an ideal world, I'd have time to make them both. The benefit to the image I posted is that it can lift the tongue of the trailer so the back almost hits the ground, making a nice ramp to dump heavy loads.
SouNdguy's will be more secure in that it can't lift unexpectedly.
I guess it all comes down to having the right tool for the job. Sometimes it's nice to have a bunch of similar tools because sometimes the minor differences between them can make a specific job just a bit easier.

Thanks for reminding us of SouNdguy's idea.

Wouldn't having the vertical bar with the top link attached make the draw bar a lot stonger and more secure than just pulling with just the draw bar and a bar lock? Might be overkill in most applications, but it seems there'd be a lot less stress on the lift arms.

probably stronger as you say, but it also keeps the reciever more level as you lift the drawbar. The drawbar lock keeps the same angle as the lift bars when you lift.

Simple, easy, and a complete RIPOFF price wise.

My CNH dealer sells a tisco kit for a massive 20$ that bolts to your drawbar making it an a-frame kit. Add a bolt on 2" reciever tube blank for about another 20$ from TSC and you save about 15$ plus shipping.

Now.. if it comes with the tounge and ball.. it will be 'close' in price.. depending on the shipping and handling charges.. etc.

Hey, I like that!!! Kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Simple, but very effective.

Thanks for posting it. I'll get right on it, for my 2N. Easy to build, I would think. Saving the shipping costs.!!!

makes me wonder why you need the vertical portion - put a drawbar lock on one of the lower lift arms and bolt the receiver to the drawbar.

I agree, Ed, a drawbar lock would be just as good and cheaoer and easier to install. I still like my front mounted trailer ball on the front bumper. Push yer trailer where you want it.

I gotta say I have gotten so much use out of the front bumper on my 2N and its little hitch. I have a flatbed trailer that we use for parades and such. I use the front hitch to move the wagon when I am mowing around it. Quick and simple.

Thanks for posting the picture Ed!

I don't happen to have a drawbar lock - I know they are cheep enough, but I have the scrap to make this free vs buying the lock, and it looks so simple to make. It's just another way to attach the reciever, and in my case, I think it'll save me a few bucks.

Over the last few months since I've found this board I've seen at least 6 (probably more) different ways to keep the drawbar from rotating. I just thought I'd add one more to the mix...

I agree - there are a great number of ways to keep the bar from rotating. I also agree that if you can make it yourself, get to it! Henry would have wanted it that way!
