I talked with a guy this weekend that I have bought some parts off of before. He has a 40 9N serial number is only about 200 away from mine. He is wanting to sell the rest of the tractor, much of it is in buckets and the block and tranny have only been covered with tarps for several years. No hood radiator is in the barn but does not know how good it is, I have the aluminum dash already along with the tranny cover. wheels are off but near by, bad rubber front hubs are original (mine are not) rims are good, rear are loops not hats same as mine. He is wanting $200 for it. The one thing he is unsure of is what electrical components he has (generator and such to revert mine to 6V). I thought about offering him $150?

One of my goals is to obtain a second tractor then go through my 9N and get it as close as possible to original. Wife is not an issue as she is just as interested as I.

I suppose a lot would depend on what is in the buckets but what do you all think??? What other things should I look specificly for, good deal bad deal???

Actually I am looking at a couple blue machines. I found a 4000 diesel nearby for $4500 and a 3000 gas for $3750... Now I just have to get the money? I'm aiming for something in the 1000 series. I really need to be able to tote round bails so that is where I'm aiming, now for the money part! Still won't part with the 9N, my only fear is when I get the second tractor it will be claimed by my wife and my seat time will remain in a steel pan and since she is a stay at home mom, I'll have trouble sneaking it out to play er I mean work!!!

James,
As the others have said, if you need the parts then $200 is a bargain.
Now as to that second tractor that you mentioned you are needing... I know I'll be seen as a heretic here but Why buy another N?
Have a look at some of the newer Fords. 600/01
800/01 or even (God forbid) one of the blue Thousand series Fords.
Live PTO, live hydraulics, differential lock, power steering, optional diesel, lots more gears,
tiller capable, remote hydraulics.
I went from a 2N to an 8N to a 3 cyl 2000 to a 3000 that I built out of parts and pieces.
All that great Ford dependability, parts availability, ease of repair, plus another 25 years of refinement.
Don't rule them out. They are very, very good tractors.

Dan if you ask Gary he will tell you time is not on my side. but as soon as I can I will pull those sectors out and take a photo of them. If I remember mine are worn in the middle and I refused to sell them a while back cause I didn't like em real well, but when I get a picture you can judge.

I have some sectors on the way from another board memeber. He says the left side is perfect, but the right side has some wear in the center. I also need a good steering shaft with a decent pinion. If you are in the market to sell and they are in good shape, please let me know., I would love to see pics

Thanks,
Dan

GB, we posted at the same time. the sectors I have on hand are only in fair shape, no teeth missing but some are thin if memory serves me right, I don't remember if they came out of my tractor or his? Thats bad, I'm only 36 and can't remember! The shaft is in good shape though and teeth looked good if I remember right. If that helps at all?

I have everything from the transmission plate up to but not including the steering wheel already installed on my tractor. I disconnected the steering arms from the sectors and removed it all as one piece. $65 not bad...

My fear is the tranny is wide open covered only with a tarp. He thinks the engine was good, it was not running when he bought it so it is a total guess between him and who he bought it from. Fenders are fair at best. It is sitting on blocks wheels and tires are leaning up against his barn and I doubt if any of the tires would hold air? I believe the front rims to be 16". (my tractor has 8N hubs this one has the larger centers 9N). No seat, unless it is with the buckets?

I'm going out this week and will look over the buckets, but any suggestions on things to look for as I am digging? Especially toward going back to 6V (mine was already switched over when I got it)

Thanks

James

James;

A gutted engine block if it were not cracked anywhere is more than he is asking for the whole thing. I don't think you can lose, at $200.00. If it were me I'd jump at it. Flash $150.00 at him and I'll bet he takes it.

I know someone right now, that needs a 9N steering section and shaft. Let me know if you get it, and I'll let my guy know where to get his parts.

Is there any 3 point parts on there?

Brake parts?

Still have the hydro pump or housing?

Should at least have the trumpets and the diffy..

Anyone ONE of that stuff should bring $200 or close to it.

I think it is a "no brainer" at $200.

But then I haven't seen what you have seen.
