I am hoping to get a few things cleared up on which resistors to use with what Electrical Applications.I have a 9N with a 12V conversion/Front Mount distributor. From what I can tell, there are two resistors that are used. There is the #1) Ignition Coil Resistor Assy (Ytmag P/N A8NN12250B), and a general #2) 0.5ohm resistor (Ytmag P/N 8NE10306, and I also believe you can pick these up at most auto parts stores. I bought a couple at Autozone about $3 each.) Can someone please explain the difference between these two resistors to me? They are both ballast resistors? What is the resistance on the #1 Ignition coil resistor? What did an original 9N come with (6V system)? Do you have to buy the #1 resistor $$$, or can something else be used in its place, cheap? Mainly I’d like to understand what to use when. A) So with a 12V, Front Mount Distributor and a 6V coil, what resistors do I need? (This is the configuration that I bought the tractor with, and it currently had a #1 and #2 resistor wired in series with each other between the ign switch and the coil.) Is this the standard practice? B) I also bought a new 12V coil. Dell (thanks for your help) told me that with this configuration (12V system, and 12V coil), I would just need the “original ballast Resistor”. So which resistor is the “original”?, or can I just use the #2 resistor from the auto parts store? I set up the tractor with 12 coil and the #2 resistor, and she fired right up and ran good for about 10 minutes, then sputtered and backfired and died. She wouldn’t restart. Everything with the electrical system is new, so I’m thinking possibly Coil to Distributor contact spring problems, or something with the resistor? Please advise.
