Thanks to all who offered assistance in trouble shooting my problems with no spark on 9N. Between your ideas and encouragement, I beat the demons and now have spark. Will put sheet metal back on this weekend and should be good to go.

The problem stemmed from the thin copper strip between the points and the condenser. It seems that I carelessly crinkled that when installing the points and it was shorting out on the distributor housing. For what ever reason, last night while watching TV, I wondered if I had put this conductor againts the steel or copper strip from the condenser. Upon opening it up and investigating a bit closer, I recogonized my carelessness. I guess it pays to take your time and take nothing for granted.

I was getting really frustrated, as these are not that complex of a machine, and yet I was being outsmarted. Now I know. Pass on the information to meticulously go through step by step and the results will be positive. Again thanks all. I will post some pictures when I get a chance.

And what appears intuitively apparent to one observing in real time can be practically invisible on the internet... We are truly guessing... yes, a calibrated guess based on history we've been exposed to, but GUESSING in offering advice.

The good news is this, you will never look at another distributor and NOT check for that problem again!!

Lesson well & truly learned!!

Broke mine a few years ago and soldered a hunk of #12 copper wire to stitch it back together - works fine. There's a number of ways to fix it, but you sure can't get along without it.

That sure is a delicate part. The previous owner of my 8N kinda butchered the strip in my distributor. So far it hasn't given me any trouble, but I suspect my luck will run out soon.

Sure glad to hear you got your N going! Have fun with it.

...and don't it feel good!

You make an interesting observation - these are simple machines, yet the problems always seem anything but.
