A pic of the cast iron dash, the oil gauge is really old, key and starter button in dash, the speaker magnet sticks great.

Wow, learn sumthin everyday... It is very simular to the cast aluminum dash in looks and structure. I think it would be a reasonable guess that this could be a mid stream change between the early 9N aluminum (easily cracked) dash and the most common steel plate dash. Thank you for sharing the extra photo's, It's great finding out something new about the N's.

James

I've got a 1947 2N that has the same dash layout as yours. Yours may be a 2N also.

Besides my 9N I have a Model T Ford. The engines are remarkably similar, although they were made several years apart.

With Model T's, the engine's serial # was stamped on a flat place similar to the one you show. But when a replacement block was shipped from the factory, it had no serial number stamped on it. The shop that replaced the block was supposed to stamp the same number on the replacement block as the original block.

It seems reasonable to me that Ford used the same arrangement with replacement blocks for tractors. And, if the shop that did the replacement, or the farmer who did it himself, had no number stamps, there wouldn't be any number at all on the block.

Could this be the answer??

Wrong! The Early N's had studs and nuts... Not bolts...

its been rebuilt at least once. head bolts are not bolts. thats the easy way of not having to take off the hood and tank to get the head off.

also, i think i would clean out that sediment bowl.

Yes the bowl was cleaned the day before, I took out the screen and put a filter inline until the tank dumps its old crud, it's not rusty inside but lots of old build up. Todays 10% alcohol gas lifts off the old crud and thats what its filled with.

Looks like my dash. My starter button is in front of my gear shifter... Spray some paint on the serial # and see if that helps. Wire brush it first.

Rusted beyond reading. But it must be close to a 40 year tractor.
