On my 49 8N I have this short chunk of chain with a funny shaped little metal plate thing, flat, about 1-1/2 inches square with a 3/4 inch deep by 3/16 wide notch taken out of it. It is attached to the bottom end of the touch control quadrant (Position 56, Figure F0142, Page 94 of the IT Manual). Looked through my owners manual and the IT shop manual and can't find this thing shown anywhere. Anyone have an idea if this thing is important or is it just a farmers answer to a coon tail on the car antenna?

Thanks in advance

Rick

Comments correct for using to hold the 3 pt lever in the lowered position. Hang onto those chain ass'y as NH gets close to $85.00 for it.

Rick,
They are right about that whatzitfor. The chain should be 3' 4" long with a metal oval tag that says Warning to avoid damage to pump put control lever fully down and fit wedge under stopper. This was original equipment, it shows it in the original 9n owners manual, I have a couple of them in the garage that I have collected. RG

i think its for locking out the touch control when you are using the swinging drawbar with stays, you want to chain lock the touch control down or you will one day accidentally raise the control and ruin your stays like i did. i believe it was original equipment on N's.
