Removing 9N distributor breaker plate?

I have a 39 9N with front mount distributor. The points are not closing properly, but I"m having trouble removing them because the "center" screw seems to be stripped. It will turn but will not back out. Question is how do I remove the breaker plate from the distributor base so I can better get the points off and replaced? Thanks

Let me ask first, you DO have the distributor off the tractor, right?? Just two bolts....

The breaker plate is held in, if I recall right, by a wire retainer clip and a short bolt that comes in from the outside.

Look carefully at the distributor shaft drive tang, it is offset.. only goes back one way... easy to do, and all the detail work can be done on your bench with ease..

Let us know how it goes... follow your manual, or get one from YTMag (look on the left side).

"Center screw is the gap adjustment screw and it stays in the breaker plate. Just remove the two end screws and the wires from the end of the points. Even if you are speaking of one of the hold down screws on the ends of the points, I'd put some pressure under the old points and lift up while unscrewing the stripped screw. I wouldn't remove the breaker plate unless I just had to.

Great information! Sorry, I didn't know the gap screw stayed on the breaker plate. After removing both end screws and doing some prying to loosen the plastic piece from the pin, the points came off. thanks again guys!
