Suddenly can't engage PTO on 8N...

On my 8N (year unknown), was using the PTO one day and suddenly the next day could not move the lever to engage the PTO.
Is there something simple I am overlooking or is it a major problem? (Replaced the transmission fluid few months ago and it still looks good.)
If major problem, any idea of what it might cost to repair? Would like to keep the ole girl if I can as it's the best starting of the tractors I have. Thanks.
PS. Also, if anyone knows availability of parts for a Select-O-Speed transmission (or whole transmission) on another of my tractors, would appreciate it.

Sometimes mine is a little hard to engage, roll it forward a little, or letting out on the clutch and reengaging it helps. Might get a little grinding. Pull the side cover and look. Be careful and watch for springs or balls, slowly remove the cover. The Ford Board has more knowledge on SOS trannies. HTH
