SteveL,
I found a 5' Woods bush hog for $75. It was well used and a little rusty on top but seller let me use his tractor to mow a couple of rounds on his place before I bought. It works well with my '48 8N (when it runs).

I would recommend nothing bigger than a 5 foot mower. You will need to use a override clutch, anti-sway bars and chains to control the mower on hills and dips. The brand is your choice, I have a Rhino 5' bush hog and a old FMC Sidewinder 5 foot finishmower. I would not even consider going over a 5' because it will be wider than your rear wheels. With a 5' if your rear wheel goeas by something your mower will clear it, too.

I agree with what CC already said. The mower of choice, however, should be no bigger than a 5' brush hog.

If your N tractor is in good shape, it should be able to handle a 5' mower with no problems.

Have fun and make sure you use the mower safely with an ORC on the PTO shaft, sway bars, etc. and don't try mowing on steep grades.

We lost another "Tractor Guy" last week in my county. He was mowing a steep hillside and the tractor flipped over on top of him---Tim

Re: rotary mowers LETS TRADE in reply to cargocult, 07-23-2007 12:32:20
I know I need to trade my 6' Rhino (72") off for something my N can lift.
I have a dear old friend who bought a new 6' Rhino. Dang! That thing is BUILT!
He had a humongous Ford (8000?) and he used the Rhino about 15 or 20 hours he thinks, and he bought a bat-wing. (He wanted to mow his private 5,000' airport grass runway, and didn't want to spend more than a couple hours doing it, and he could afford the bat-wing.) The Rhino is almost un-used, but it's paint is faded pretty good from sitting out. Otherwise, it's in excellent condition, and I traded him for it before I realize a 9N simply can't lift it off the ground. I'm near Austin Tx. Let's trade cash or ?? (I'd like a smaller mower or a post-hole digger and/or box-blade, etc.)
