In 1947 did they ever mix 2n parts with 8n parts
at the beginning of production? My friend just bought a tractor serial no. 8n-00800's but the rest of the tractor looks like a 2n or 9n with 3 speed, clutch and brake on left side, 6 blade fan.
Also did they ever paint any of them blue?
Thank you!

You really can't "trust" paint colors!! Go by the numbers. My 2N is painted red and grey, like an 8N. Certainly not factory..... most likely what someone else here posted a while back, just an attempt buy a previous owner to sell an "older" model tractor by making it "LOOK" like a newer model , or someone wanting the neighbors to THINK he had a newer tractor than he really did!!!! Cheesy to be sure.....but appears to have been done a lot!!

I have an 8N/2N as well. 1947 rear section with a 1949 8N motor. I determined the year on the rear section with the date cast in the hydraulic pump base plate. All else fits to go along with the year. S/N on the motor indicates 8N year 1949.

If you want to know the original paint color take the inspection plate off and look at the back side. Mine's genuine 2N grey although the tractor's been painted the red belly scheme.

Pete; Sounds to me like what your friend bought, is a mix and match 9N/2N, with an 8N engine block installed. Over the yrs. a lot of that has happened.

Very many parts on these Ns, are interchangable.

He has BRAGGIN' rights to a early model N with an updated engine in it!!!third party image

Sounds like he has a mutt tractor which is one put togeather from 2 or more tractors. And no they didn't paint them blue but I have seen a good many of them that have been painted blue. I think the reason for painting one blue is to sell it as a tractor that its not like say calling it a 2000 instead of an 8N or 9N or 2N
