Dirt in Carb.

I have a Ford Jubilee. I replaced the carburator a year ago and today I replaced the fuel line.

I now believe a particle of dirt or something else is blocking the carb inlet needle.

I think this is the problem because when I turn on the gas value the gas runs through the carb and out of the opening that goes to the oil bath cleaner.

Can any one tell me how can check this problem out and fix it?

Thanks for the quick reply.

The problem was a stuck float and a clog in the fuel line close to the carb.

Bruce pretty well somes it up, but if you spray carb cleaner in to the elbow make sure you have the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb. That way any dirt/rust will be washed out and not cuase you problems. If you leave the drain plug in you will just move the dirt from one place to another and may cause more problems in the long run

I can't recall if there is a significant difference between the N carb & air cleaner, & the NAA, but if there is, someone else will be along shortly to correct me. I assume gas is running out of the carb throat. That means you have a bad float, needle valve and/or seat. First, tap on the side of the carb w/ the wooden handle of a hammer. If the needle valve is stuck, it may free it. (If I buy a ticket to the lottery, I may win) Step two, remove the fuel line from the carb & spray carb cleaner in the brass elbow. Short of that, pull the carb off & check it out. A shop rebuild around here goes for $70 - $80; they do the bushing & get it right. You can easily replace the float, needle valve & seat which is 75% of a rebuild. Great rebuild instructions on this site.

Bruce, just for your info. Alomst all M-S carbs are pretty much the same just some are bigger then the others but all of them are basciclly the same as far as looking at them and how they work and or are rebuilt. Alos did you know a crab kit made for an 8N will also fit an Allis D-14 and a Oliver 60, and a good number of other tractor carbs

Old, tnx for the info! No, I didn't know that; I'm a functional illiterate when it comes to anything but N's. But, I do know that the NAPA 1010 oil filter fits a Mercedes!

I found out about the carb by calling and asking my local parts store and found that the walker kits I use for the N series kit #778-505 also fits the D-14 and the oliver 60 and a number of others. I have also found to kits for like an Oliver 77 will also fit a WD allis also etc. I checked even more and found that theres only 4 or 5 different kits for the M-S carb so it makes it easy to keep a kit around for most carbs. I have one on hand right now sitting here on the desk for the N series fords

That sounds like a stuck float in the carb. Usr a big screwdriver handle and rap on the bottom of the carb, might just free it up and stop the flow.
